Oakton offers engaging youth STEM summer programs
(May 8, 2017) Young people between the ages of 8 and 12 are invited to give their science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills a workout in June and July by enrolling in fun-filled camps offered by Oakton Community College. The one-week programs—at Oakton’s campuses in Skokie, 7701 N. Lincoln Avenue, and Des Plaines, 1600 E. Golf Road—provide diverse learning opportunities connecting youth to a college campus.
Oakton’s summer STEM youth programs are offered by Oakton’s Alliance for Lifelong Learning in collaboration with the Center for Promoting STEM.
“Allowing young people to explore different STEM concepts in fun and interesting ways helps them develop a passion for STEM-related activities,” says Gloria Liu, coordinator for the Center for Promoting STEM. “STEM education is vital to the future of our region in that it leads students into careers in the field, allowing us to maintain and grow a highly-trained workforce in an increasingly competitive global economy.”
Half-day programs are offered in June and full-day programs are available in July, and tuition is as low as $129. Early bird enrollment is available for July classes if registered by Friday, June 16. Registration is available at www.oakton.edu/conted/find_classes/youth. Call 847-982-9888 for more information.
