Oakton to host June 29 veteran town hall event
(June 8, 2017) Oakton Community College, in partnership with the Capt. James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (Lovell FHCC), will present a free community town hall event for veterans, military patients and their families from 5:30-7 p.m., Thursday, June 29, at the college’s Skokie campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Rooms A145-A152.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn about Lovell FHCC’s resources and programs from Stephen R. Holt, M.D., who has served as director of the facility since 2014. Holt, a retired U.S. Air Force colonel, has more than 28 years of experience in health care. His presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.
Lovell FHCC is the nation’s first fully integrated medical facility between the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense that serves active duty military personnel, their families and veterans. Located in North Chicago, Lovell FHCC also operates an outpatient clinic in Evanston, part of Oakton’s district.
Oakton Academic Advisor and Student Veteran Representative Brooke Roche says more than 150 veterans are currently enrolled as students in the college.
“Oakton wants to promote awareness about the benefits that our student veterans and others in the community who served in the military have rightfully earned,” Roche adds.
Oakton was named to Victory Media’s coveted 2017 Military Friendly Schools® list, which honors the colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students and to ensure their success on campus. Included institutions exhibit leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience.
