(Feb. 28, 2019) Don’t miss out! The deadline for current and incoming students eligible for Oakton Community College scholarships for the fall 2019 and spring 2020 semester is Sunday, March 31. The online application can be found at https://oakton.academicworks.com/.

“Scholarships are a great way for students to reduce the cost of attending college and frees up money for other expenses,” Oakton Manager of Student Financial Assistance Jamie Petersen,” says. “Applying for scholarships is simple, taking less than an hour to fill out, and any Oakton student is eligible to apply.”

Oakton awards approximately 400 scholarships annually, ranging from $500 to more than $3,500. The college offers many different kinds of scholarships in addition to other financial aid a student may receive. Examples include those for people studying automotive technology; nursing; air conditioning, heating and refrigeration; STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields; graphic design and photography. There are scholarships for graduates of Niles Township District 219, scholarships for residents of Des Plaines and also scholarships for international students. There’s even one named for former Negro league baseball star Buck O’Neill and his wife to be awarded to an Oakton student-athlete.

To apply for a scholarship, students must first have an admission application on file. Admission instructions are listed online at www.oakton.edu/apply.

When applying for scholarships, students are required to complete a short application that includes why they want to attend Oakton, how the scholarship will assist them in meeting their educational goals, involvement in extracurricular activities related to school or work and notable achievements and accomplishments.

Scholarship announcements are expected to be made in July.
