Engineering is an essential element in building a society, and engineers are always in high demand. Putting their math and science skills to practical work, engineers conceptualize and develop real solutions to problems, building and creating structures, chemicals, processes, products and more.
There are many different categories of engineering, including mechanical, chemical, civil, electrical, computer, industrial and more. Whatever branch most interests you, Oakton College is a terrific place to begin your engineering education.
We are the first community college in the state of Illinois approved to award the associate of science in engineering (A.S.E.) degree, and we offer an engineering pre-major as well. At Oakton, not only will you take part in a nationally recognized pre-engineering curriculum, you'll also learn in small classes with more personal faculty attention and technologically advanced facilities that few colleges can match.
We take great pride in offering coursework in math, chemistry, computing and engineering that rivals the first- and second-year experience offered at four-year institutions—but at a fraction of the cost. After you complete your studies at Oakton, you'll be able to transfer to the top-notch four-year college or university of your choice. (In fact, Oakton’s four-year partners reserve space just for our engineering students!)
Our engineering department faculty are pioneers in developing online course curriculums to provide students with exemplary online learning experiences. Regardless of your student status, our engineering programs are designed to deliver the same excellent education no matter if you are on campus or learning remotely.
STEM Programs
The Engineering program is part of Oakton's Center for Promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). A number of resources are available to aid STEM students.
