Northwestern School of Professional Studies

Oakton students can transfer to the Northwestern School of Professional Studies (SPS) through our early admission transfer agreement.

Benefits

  • Early review of your current academic progress as an Oakton student to ensure you are on the right track.
    • If accepted, you will receive a "conditional" admission decision, pending successful Oakton A.A. or A.S. degree completion and adhering to all relevant policies of student conduct.
    • After full admission, you can enroll in classes as early as the first quarter after graduating from Oakton.
  • Can work with an SPS enrollment advisor and your Oakton academic advisor to create an individualized plan.
  • Invitations to attend special events and workshops, speak with current Northwestern SPS students, and meet with different departments.
  • Transfer into any SPS Undergraduate degree programs. 
  • Access to scholarships only available to SPS students.

Criteria

To qualify, students must:

  • be a current Oakton College student
  • have graduated from high school (as evidenced by a high school diploma or GED)
  • submit official high school transcripts from an US accredited high school with conferred date of completion or GED report
  • have completed a minimum of 24 transferable semester credit hours
  • maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher and earn a grade of C or better in all transferable Oakton courses and in all coursework completed at colleges or universities prior to Oakton.

Special Notes

  • This agreement is for students interested in programs offered through the Northwestern School of Professional Studies (SPS) and does not grant admission into the Northwestern University.
  • Oakton students who do not meet early admission requirements may still apply for regular admission.
  • No more than 60 semester hours (22.5 units), or half of graduation requirements, may be accepted as transfer credits.
  • Students must complete the following courses at SPS (Oakton courses cannot to waive these degree requirements:
    English 111 Writing Seminar
    English 205 Intermediate composition
    Philosophy 264 Professional Ethics

    Philosophy 364 Business and Professional Ethics
  • Courses numbered lower than 100--level and courses not deemed transferable will not be transferred.
  • SPS does not award credit for data procession or Microsoft applications training and nor do they evaluate graduate or professional coursework.
  • SPS does not accept transfer credit for dual enrollment courses used to meet graduation requirements for the high school diploma.
  • Some transfer credit courses taken beyond the last 10 years may not be approved for transfer.
