Oakton Community College officially transitioned to Oakton College on Jan. 17, 2023.
Oakton remains an open-access community college, offering associate degree, certificate, and adult and continuing education programs, along with providing a host of other resources to the community.

Q. Why is the College changing its name? As Oakton moves into its second half-century as a trusted and valued resource, College leaders identified this opportunity to re-introduce itself to the community. We believe many current, past and future students, business leaders, and the broader community will better identify with "Oakton College" and its life-changing educational opportunities. Whether students and community members seek to improve career prospects or continue their education at a four-year college or university, the transformative impact of an Oakton Education can help anyone reach their goals.
Q. Are you going to start offering bachelor’s degrees? No. At this time, Oakton does not have plans to introduce any four-year degree programs. We will continue offering associate degree and certificate programs - many of which can be transferred to four-year colleges and universities.
Q. How will this change affect me? There will be no changes to the classroom or educational experience, and the change will not impact the transferability of any earned credits, financial aid, and other student support services.
Q. When does the change take effect? The name change took effect on Jan. 17, 2023. The College’s website and social media platforms have been updated with our new logo, and campus signage will continue to be updated to reflect the change. The first degrees/certificates for graduates of “Oakton College” will be conferred in May 2023.
Q. Will the College's website URL or e-mail addresses change? No. The College will maintain its current web URL, www.oakton.edu, and the traditional email domain (ending) will remain @oakton.edu. Oakton College will maintain an active presence on social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube.
Q. What is the cost of the name change? The budget cost to implement the College’s name change in the fiscal year 2023 budget is $400,000. This includes the cost of updating physical and digital signage, College fleet, letterhead/business cards, and other assets — as well as resources to help us re-introduce Oakton to students and the community.
Q. Will this change impact the cost of tuition? The College does not anticipate a change in tuition in 2023. Variables that affect tuition include market dynamics, the cost of inflation, and other factors.
Q. Is Oakton’s mascot or athletic team names’ changing? No, Oakton’s intercollegiate athletic teams will continue to compete as the Owls, cheered on by our amazing mascot, Oakly! Visit our athletic website for more information on Oakton College athletics. Go Owls!
