Apply In Person
To apply in person, please bring a photo ID to the front desk at either campus.
To get a library card/Owl ID online, please complete and send our Library Card Request Form. Both credit and noncredit students who are registered for current or upcoming classes can apply, and so can employees.
If you apply online, we'll handle your request within two business days. You'll have options: pick up your physical card, get it mailed to you (which may take up to 2 weeks off-campus), or ask for a digital copy.
For specific programs like EMT, Medical Assistant, Nursing, Phlebotomy, or PTA, the cards applied for online will be given to the teacher for distribution during class.

What Can I Do With My Card?
- Borrow books, DVDs, regular and technology reserves, etc. from either campus library
- Use it as a student ID
- Use it in the Learning Center to check-in for tutoring.
- Use it as at the Testing Center (in addition to a photo ID), Learning Center, and Fitness Center
- Use it as a student ID to get discounts anywhere that offers "student" prices with no age limit (movie theaters, museums, Ravinia, etc.)

How to Get Your Oakton Library Card
Oakton College district residents may apply for an Oakton Library Card at the circulation desk at the Des Plaines or Skokie campuses.
Oakton College district residents include:
- Adults living in the Oakton district (must provide a current valid Illinois driver's license or current valid Illinois state ID card with proof of residency)
- Employees working for a company in the Oakton district (those working in the Oakton College district must confirm in-district employment on company letterhead, signed by their supervisor.
- Alliance for Lifelong Learning (ALL) students (ALL students not living in the Oakton College district must provide an Oakton College ALL class tuition receipt
- Students attending a high school in the Oakton district (must provide a high school student ID, current valid Illinois driver's license, or current valid Illinois state ID card)
How to Borrow an Item from Your Oakton Campus Library
Take the item and your Oakton Library Card to the Des Plaines or Skokie Campus Library Circulation Desk. Staff will check out the book.
Oakton College district residents can:
- Check out a total of 10 items for four weeks each
- Renew books in person or by phone, by phone, or online.
Please note that there is a lost book charge which is the cost of the book if the book is overdue for over 35 days.
