The Oakton Caring Closet, located on the Des Plaines and Skokie campuses, are where Oakton students can get essentials like food and items for self-care, such as soap and toothpaste. These items are offered free of charge and with discretion.
Studies show that when students don't have the things they really need, it can make it hard for them to do well in school. At Oakton in 2018, a survey found that 31 percent of students said they sometimes didn't have enough food. The Caring Closet seeks to support students with these most basic needs so they can focus on their studies.
