If any of this sounds like you, consider bringing your talents to the OCCurrence, Oakton's own national-award-winning student newspaper.
The OCCurrence is open to all full and part-time students interested in gaining experience or learning new skills in the fields of journalism, digital marketing and more.
Contributors and student staff members of the OCCurrence participate in all aspects of newspaper production, including writing, editing, photography, cartooning, layout, paste-up and advertising sales. In addition to valuable professional experience, past contributors to the OCCurrence have also participated in junior college journalism conferences.
OCCurrence contributors and staff members play an enormous role in keeping students informed about campus events, athletics activities, the arts and more. Contributors and staff members have covered a number of high-profile stories in recent times, ranging from the COVID-19 pandemic to the 2020 presidential election.
In addition to being Oakton students' go-to source for news, the OCCurrence is also where you'll find sports commentary, art and music critique, film and food reviews, editorials and more. So whether you're a budding journalist, amateur photographer, avid film critic or sports enthusiast, the OCCurrence wants to hear from you.
