Roosevelt University College Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program

The Roosevelt University Noyce Scholarship Program seeks to encourage talented science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) majors and professionals to become middle school and high school teachers in Biology, Biochemistry, and Mathematics. Noyce Scholars are eligible to receive a full scholarship during their junior and senior years at Roosevelt. For each year of scholarship received, the scholar agrees to teach an eligible STEM subject in a "high needs" Illinois school for two years. All scholars need to complete all courses required for Illinois licensure.

Benefits

  • Eligibility to receive full scholarship during junior and senior years as an Undergraduate student at Roosevelt. Graduate Students are eligible to receive a full scholarship for each of the two years of the secondary education MA degree program.
  • Assistance from the Chicago Public Schools in job placement. However it is not required for scholars to teach for CPS.
  • In partnership with the Chicago Public Schools, additional support during the initial years of STEM teaching will be provided through the assignment of an experienced teacher mentor for two years and summer workshops.
  • Roosevelt undergraduate students may apply for an internship that provides up to $400 per year for activities introducing them to the teaching profession. Interns are not guaranteed a scholarship, but will seriously be considered based upon their internship period.

Participation Details

In order to qualify for the Roosevelt University Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program, a student must:

  • Be an admitted or current student at Roosevelt University who will be in their junior or senior year during the time of the scholarship
  • Attend Roosevelt for the junior and senior years and major in biology, chemistry or mathematics
  • Minor in secondary education
  • Have a GPA of at least 2.8 on a 4.0 scale at the time of application for scholarship funds.
  • Successfully pass the Illinois Basic Skills test or have SAT or ACT scores that satisfy the state licensure requirements.
  • Fulfill two year teaching commitment within six years of program completion.
