Northern Illinois University

Oakton students can transfer to Northern Illinois University (NIU) through our guaranteed admission agreement and according to the academic pathways outlined below:

Criteria

To qualify, students must:

  • be a high school graduate,
    • AND have completed required general education coursework
    • AND a minimum of twenty-four (24) transferable credit hours at Oakton
    • WITH a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale on all transferrable coursework.
  • be in good standing at Oakton College at the time of transfer.

Special Note

  • Eligible students who meet the GPA requirements may apply to the University Honors Program.
  • Courses numbered lower than 100-level and other courses not deemed transferable are not included in this agreement.
  • Students in the U.S. on a non-permanent resident visa must meet NIU's English proficiency requirement by completing ENG 121 AND either ENG 122 OR ENG 126 with grades of C or higher.
